Spring is here at last. Son and I went to range this AM to practice for up coming 12 hour handgun course. Did some weakside and wounded drills and yes rapid fire at the end I am not a ogre. Just the two of us on the handgun range.
JT- The training class is 12 hours and minimum of 500 rounds apiece and up to 1K if time permits. The competition in the summer is 2 days (precision steel). The handgun portion is small less than 100 rds. And it is just during the day, at night you are free to do whatever. With max ranges to 800m but they said it would all be 1moa targets , which can be daunting without really good dope. They tend to try and get you turned around on the compass heading for the shots. It is a great match (shot it last year) very well run.
JT- The competition in the winter is three days, and you pack in everything you need for the competition. No returning to the parking lot. I will probably be using a bolt gun for this and my son will carry the LAR-8. I am still deciding if I should use the LAR-8 and have him use his AR15 varmint rifle. That way we are both humping semi-autos. It all depends on if I can get good hits at the ranges needed. I think the max range is going to be 1000m. But not sure , some other things are being restructured for the match and I think they are going to have a 308 and 223 only section run concurrent with the other match. Anyway I have a lot of work to do to get ready. I have been running with my pack at 40 pounds. Some of the runs will be in full pack and up to 5miles before the course of fire. I have no expectations of doing well given the competition. But it will be a great father/son experience, that will be remembered. And you never know we may surprise a few people.
Dadgummit Man, that sonds a bit intensive, but, "FUN".
I`m hoping the Doc.`ll allow Me to begin running now, after the back surgery. I need ot get into shape.

Best of luck, I'll be rooting for you! :twothumbs: Wish I had backed off just a touch in my youth and saved some so I could involve myself in something like this, sounds like a blast, brings back fond memories of my hardcore days.... :usa:
